A Chinese Buddhist periodical; precursor to the Hǎicháo yīn 海潮音.
Quarterly, averaging about 150 pages per issue. Printed by Zhōnghuá shūjú 中華書局. It was an organ of the Awakening Society, which had been founded in Shànghǎi in the summer of 1918 by Tàixū 太虛, with help from Shǐ Yīrú 史一如, Chén Yuánbái 陳元白, Jiǎng Zuòbīn 蔣作賓, and Huáng Bǎocāng 黃葆蒼. They first published two works by Tàixū, Dàodé lùnhéng 道德論衡 (Discourse on Morality) and Léngyán shèlùn 楞嚴攝論 (Select Commentary on the Śūraṃgama Sūtra). These two publications eventually became the seed for Awakening Society Collectania. It was relatively liberal. Topics discussed included literature and explanations of Buddhist terms. Daoist and Confucian authors were also included.
