Zhū Zǐqiáo 朱子橋 was an important figure for exploring and reviving the Buddhist culture of this area in the first half of the 20th century.
In 1929 he discovered a nearly complete edition of the Sòng Dynasty-era Qìshā Canon 磧砂經 here
As a general in the Chinese Army, he was stationed here from 1936 to his death in 1941. During this time he unearthed and renovated many temples and Buddhist monuments.
Tánxū 倓虛 lived here from 1932 to 1934, helping to revive Buddhism.
