Dharmadhatu Seminary: Fǎjiè xuéyuàn 法界學院

There were at least two seminaries that operated under this name during the Republican period.

First Dharmadhatu Seminary

  • 1920 - ?? (at least until 1928[1])
  • Location(s): Xīngfú Temple 興福寺, Yúshān 虞山 in Chángrè County 常熱縣, Jiāngsū 江蘇
  • Associated Person(s): Yuèxiá 月霞, Yīngcí 應慈, Chángxǐng 常惺, Chísōng 持松,

Yuèxiá became abbot of Xīngfú Temple in 1917. His dream was to create a Buddhist Seminary, possible similar to the Huáyán University 華嚴大學, that he ran from 1912 to 1916. When Yuèxiá died in Hángzhōu that fall, it fell to Yīngcí to start the school, which he did in 1920.

Second Dharmadhatu Seminary

  • Fall of 1933 - Spring of 1936 on Gǔshān; ?? at at Fǎhǎi
  • Location(s): Gǔshān 鼓山, Fúzhōu 福州; Fǎhǎi Temple 法海寺
  • Associated Person(s): Cízhōu 慈舟, Xūyún 虛雲

Organized at the behest of Xūyún by Cízhōu. This seems to have been what Cízhōu called his various lecture series and was not actually a self-standing Seminary.
