Hànyáng 漢陽 had existed as a distinct geographical entity since the Five Dynasties, and in the late Qīng and Republican periods was an important location because of the Hànyáng Arsenal 漢陽兵工廠 and the Hànyáng Ironworks 漢陽鐵廠.
Important Buddhist Sites
- Guīyuán Temple 歸元寺
- Chísōng 持松 received tonsure here in 1912
- Cízhōu 慈舟 (1877-1958) received tonsure here in 1910
