The most important Chinese lay Buddhist association of the early 20th century.
This organization was formed during a reorganization of the Shànghǎi World Buddhist Lay Association 上海世界佛教居士林 in 1922, in which one part was spun off as the Shànghǎi Buddhist Pure Karma Association 上海佛教淨業社.
This Association published Shìjiè Fójiào jūshìlín línkān 世界佛教居士林林刊 (Magazine of the World Buddhist Lay Association) from 1926 to 1937. It also operated a library, a school, and a clinic.
