Zēng Pǔxìn 曾普信 (1902-1977)

Biography

Studied in Japan from from 1921 to 1929. He graduated from college in March, 1928. The following March 18, he became a Sōtō missionary. In 1931, he became a teacher at the Taiwanese Buddhist High School 台灣佛教中學林.

From 1932 to 1940 he spent his time studying and writing. In 1939, he wrote 臺灣宗教と迷信陋習, the work for which he is best known.

From 1947, he edited the magazine Taiwanese Buddhism 台灣佛教.

In 1949 he became abbot of Dōngjìng Temple 東淨寺 in Huálián 華蓮, and retired in 1965. That same year, he helped the mainland monk Shì Dōngchū 釋東初 establish himself at Fǎzàng Temple 法藏寺 in Běitóu 北投.
