History

This Buddhist seminary 佛學院 was started by Zhènhuá 震華 shortly after he became abbot of Yùfó Temple 玉佛寺. He was discouraged by the lackadaisical attitude he saw among the monks who sought shelter in Shànghǎi 上海 during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

During the war this seminary published the periodical Miàofǎ lún 妙法輪. After the war, Tàixu1 太虛 and Fúshàn 福善 published the magazine Juéqún zhōubào 覺群週報 here.

After being closed during the Cultural Revolution, this seminary is once again actively training monks.
