'''Wǔhàn 武漢''' was formed in [[1927]] by merging the three cities Hànyáng [[漢陽]], Hànkǒu [[漢口]], and Wǔchāng [[武昌]]. For a short time in the late [[1930s]] it was the wartime capital of the Republic of China, before the government moved further west. Note that in spite of its recent formation, some historical sources use the term "Wǔhàn" to refer to the tri-city region before [[1927]] as well.
