'''Táiwān 台灣''' is an island province in the southeast of China. Separated administratively from Fújiàn [[福建]] province in [[1885]], from [[1895]] to [[1945]] it was ruled as part of the Japanese Empire. In [[1949]] the Nationalist government moved to the island.
