Yángzhōu 揚州 is a city in Jiāngsū 江蘇 province, on the north bank of the Chángjiāng 長江. The British China Inland Mission had an important station here, and it is home to several important Buddhist sites.
Important Buddhist Sites
- The Dàmíng Temple 大明寺, founded in the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, rebuilt in the 1930s. Was known as Fǎjìng Temple 法淨寺 during the Qīng Dynasty because of the name's resonance with the Míng Dynasty.
Other Notes
- Dàxǐng 大醒 was ordained here in 1924
- Jǐng Chāngjí 景昌極 died here in 1982
- The Northern Jiāngsū Scriptural Press 江北刻經處 was established in nearby Zhuānqiáo town 磚橋鎮 in 1874
- Yīngcí 應慈 studied here in the early 1900s
- The Universal Saṇgha Study Hall 普通僧學堂 was located here in Tiānníng Temple 天寧寺 in the mid-1900s
